The Venue

Our reception will be at the Maryland Science Center, and I could not be more excited! It will be in a tent on the roof, with a great view of the harbor. It was a bit of a splurge for us, but I really wanted a fabulous reception site (it's what is most important to me), and we're cutting a bunch of less important things in order to afford it. I love love love Baltimore and I really want to share that with my guests. I also wanted a clean, modern reception, and I think the tent will be perfect. Plus, it's sort of like having an outdoor reception while being protected from the elements, and early June will be (I hope!) beautiful but not too hot and humid. I just saw the tent for the first time, and it's wonderful! The day we were there, there was a nice breeze, which was lovely. The only thing I'm not wild about is the shape-it's kind of like an "L". But what do you want? Everything else about it is perfect! The dance floor and head table will be at the intersection of the L so everyone should be able to see the important things going on :)

The Centerpieces

I was originally planning on DIY centerpieces, but then decided it was too much work for me! So now I'm thinking about square vases with wheatgrass and various shades of pink gerbera daisies "growing" from the grass. I may also alternate these with square vases of hot pink carnations, because I love how that looks. I would like my guests to be able to take home the CPs, too (and gerberas can last 2-3 weeks!).

Centerpiece Trial

We had a centerpiece trial when we did our tasting, and I like how they turned out! There were some issues with the flowers, but I talked to the florist and it's all getting worked out. We also decided to add hot pink ribbon around the vase, to give it a little something more. Now all we need is to find the square vases...

The Party Decor

I want a bright, fun, modern reception. Our colors are pink and green, but not too "watermelon-y". I know the tent has lights around the edge, but I don't think we're going to add any more. Originally I wanted to hang lanterns from the ceiling, but it's turning out to be a little too much work, so we're nixing that idea. For table linens, we're going with a white tablecloth and hot pink napkins. I also nixed the idea of table runners because it was going to be too expensive and too labor-intensive. We might have hot pink tablecloths for the cocktail tables but not sure yet.

I really hope the tent has enough color!

The Cake

I am so excited for our cake. Our baker is fabulous and I know she's going to do a great job! We chose 4 flavors (although I'm not sure we'll have all of them): lemon cake with raspberry filling, almond cake with lemon filling, chocolate cake with chocolate fudge, and red velvet cake with cream cheese icing. It's going to be a 4-tier, square cake with hot pink ribbon around the base of each layer and either swirls or dots. And our cake toppers are awesome! We found them at a store in Bethany Beach, DE-they're crabs! I don't have any pictures yet but I'm going to accessorize them with bride and groom items.

Escort Cards

Picture
I'm not really a fan of individual escort cards. I think it's a big waste of paper (although I do think they're often necessary). So I'm thinking of something like either of the 2 examples above. The space will be small enough that if a guest forgets where he's sitting, he can easily go back and check the board! Plus, to be honest, I'd rather spend my money elsewhere!
